How long does it take to process an EIN?
The processing time for an Employer Identification Number (EIN) can vary depending on how you apply for it.
Online Application using a Social Security number (SSN)
Fax (8821 and SS4 forms)
If we applied for your EIN via fax I.e you filled the 8821 and SS4 forms, the processing time will be longer compared to the online application method. Generally, it takes about 6 to 8 weeks to receive your EIN if you apply by fax.
Keep in mind that these processing times are approximate and may vary depending on factors such as the volume of applications the IRS is handling at the time and any additional information required for processing. This means the speed of processing is basically determined by the IRS and we do not exactly have control over it. However, we would always ensure that we guide you on properly filling of the forms to ensure everything is done accordingly.
