How long does it take to process an EIN?

The processing time for an Employer Identification Number (EIN) can vary depending on how you apply for it.

There are two procedures for obtaining an EIN:
    1. Using a Social Security Number (SSN)

    2. Using the Form SS4 and 8821

    Option 1:

If you have an SSN, the EIN is processed within 24 hours.

    Option 2:

If you do not have an SSN, your application will be made using the Form SS4 and the Form 8821

There are currently 2 ways in which the application for Option 2 is done.

    1. Using a third-party’s SSN for the application. This enables the state to recognize them as a third party who is only ‘helping’ to procure your EIN and nothing more, This simply means that our partner’s name is on file as an authorized third party designee and may reflect on the EIN certificate. However  there are no Tax or legal implications. The timeline for this option is 3 business days.

    2. We apply using the SS4 document alone. The official timeline for this process is 8 - 12 weeks however, there will be no other name on the EIN certificate. The timeline for this option is within 8 - 12 weeks,  we would also guide you on how to follow up with the IRS yourself in cases whereby the timeline is exceeded.
